Alex was back at the power source building, trying to figure out some other way to fix his helicopter. He knew it needed a new part, which was impossible to get out here at the moment, but a part of him wanted to keep trying. If he could fix this thing, he could probably fly out somewhere and get some help or medicine for the people that lived here. By now, he and the guy who worked here had become pretty good friends They'd often talk to each other about different things, but right now, Alex was a bit busy. He had the main door to the engine of the helicopter open, and he was simply messing around again to try and figure some other things out. He didn't there was anything he could substitute for the part he needed, but again, he didn't want to give up all hope on it.
About an hour later, the guy who ran the place came out from the building and looked up at him. "Alex, you've been out here for over an hour....aren't you cold?" The man asked. Alex just smirked and gave a bit of a laugh. "Not really, I'm used to this stuff." And by his accent, it was pretty obvious as to where he was from. In Russia, they had some pretty harsh winters...not to try to downsize Antarctica or anything. It was pretty bad here as well, but again, the cold wasn't anything new to him. He spent most of his life in it, and he actually liked it. "You've been trying to fix that thing since you first found out about its troubles, and that was weeks ago." The man continued. Again, Alex just smirked. "You never know, right?" The guy then went back inside and Alex went about his usual business.
Honestly, he really wasn't finding anything new. Just the same old issues, even though this was the first time it's ever given him troubles so far. But after about another fifteen minutes, he just cursed and hit his hands against the helicopter in frustration. Now he was going back to his old thoughts of just giving up, but he knew that in a few days, he'd probably be back here and trying to fix things up again.

Selena was bored. And when she said bored, she meant bored. After sitting in her 'home' for hours trying to figure out the blasted jigsaw puzzle that she had been at since she arrived she gave up. Well, she needed to get outside anyways, the indoors were getting to her and she felt restless... like a dog kept in a cage too long. It seemed that that feeling came far too often for her, it annoyed her and yet calmed her - at least it meant that she would never be bored with life. After tossing her hair into a messy pony-tail she threw on a fur-lined hooded coat over her already warm clothes.. she wasn't going to take the risk out there, she knew her chances better than anyone.
She let her feet lead her, lead her to wherever they decided they wanted to go. It didn't matter to her, all that mattered was the crisp, cold air against her skin - which annoyed her enough after a moment to pull her scarf over her mouth and nose - and the sound of nature around her. The 'town' if one could call it that, was not very busy today... then again, it never really was... anyone who wasn't suicidal basically stayed in there homes. And with the recent amount of sick people they were really deciding to be smart and stay in. She couldn't blame them but she couldn't be one of them either - indoors was not her.
Oddly enough she found herself in front of the powerplant, the last place she had really been expecting - and outside near his helicopter was a man she knew she had seen around before. He wasn't from around here... well, that made no sense. He wasn't from around Canada or anywhere that she really knew well, no, he was from Russia... she could tell that from his accent when he spoke to the other man. She was unwilling to interrupt for a moment, waiting until the other went back to his work inside and Lena lingered, watching to see what the man would do.
Only to see him get frustrated enough to slam his hands on his precious helicopter. Deciding it would be best to speak out from her posistion, quite a bit away from the actual man - which might've been good seeing as she was catching him off guard - "Having some problems?" Her tone was light, joking as she removed the scarf to be better heard, it was awful hard to understand someone when everything they said was muffled.

Alex did care for this helicopter, in fact, he loved it, but right now...it wasn't making him too pleased. The part he needed was specific to this type of chopper, which was one of the most common, so it wouldn't be hard to get if he weren't out here in Antarctica. Not to mention the fact that they were in a town that hardly anyone knew about. Damn this place...it was a thought he's been having recently. Back where he used to live, at least you could go to a doctor when you felt sick, and they'd usually find out the problem. The same could be said for most places, but not here. Here, it was chaotic at times, and no one knew for sure what was going on.
Looking back through the engine compartment, everything seemed perfectly fine and in the right place. However, if you were to try and start the helicopter, nothing would happen other than a few warning symbols and tones to let you know that something wasn't right. When Alex heard a voice though, he looked to his left and saw a familiar face. He's seen her around town a few times, but never actually spoke to her. "You could say that." He replied. "Thing hasn't been working for me in weeks."
After deciding to give up on it again for the day, Alex stepped off the small platform that he'd been on that allowed him to reach the engine compartment. "Anything you need from here?" He asked. He honestly didn't see why someone would need something from the power place, but it didn't hurt to ask. From time to time, a person would just stop by to simply ask the guy here a question. Opening one of the main doors to the helicopter, Alex took off the gloves he was wearing and threw them on the seat. Then he put on some warmer and more comfortable ones before closing the door again.
When working on things, it didn't help much to be wearing the thicker gloves meant for those harsh winters. After a few moments though, Alex noticed that the main guy working here hadn't come out of the building since someone was here. So he guessed that either he didn't hear her, or he was thinking that Alex could handle it.

Lena watched as he acknowledged her presence, "You could say that." "Thing hasn't been working for me in weeks." She frowned at that, she knew just how frustrating it could be when everything seemed to go wrong. And right now that helicopter was pretty much the only thing that would be able to save them... and without it they were all screwed. "Whats wrong with it?" She questioned, tilting her head slightly to the side as she took a few steps forward. Selena may not have been an expert with machines.. okay, well, she was far from an expert, maybe a novice if she was lucky but there could've been something she could do to help him. She didn't know.
"Anything you need from here?" As rude as it was, she had to bite back a laugh, she was unused to someone having such a strong accent that wasn't at least a strong 'canadian' french one. She shook her head, "Nope. Just needed something to do - to take my mind off of things, you know?" She knew that her own accent sounded different to others, a bit of french-sounding words sprinkled in between the already very Canadian accent. Her time in Alaska hadn't erased it at all. She was tempted to add something smart, to ask if he needed anything but she had realized soon enough when she got out here that people didn't often liked to be bitched at, even if it wasn't counting as bitching to her. No, if Lena wanted to be mad at you, she would be mad.
She watched silent as he changed his gloves, fiddling with the zipper on her heavy jacket before taking a few steps forward, until she was close enough for an average conversation. "I'm Lena, by the way - well, Selena is my actual name. Never use it though." A small laugh escaped her lips as she gave a small smile. If she was going to talk with him it would do her no good to not even know his name. She offered out a hand for him to shake, unsure if he would even take it.
She was quite unused to actually having conversations since she had come to this god forsaken place, not many people wanted to just hop on out and have a good laugh... or a few beers. Really, people would do good to learn to have a good time, there was no point being stranded here if you weren't going to enjoy it. Despite the extreme harsh cold, Lena actually enjoyed it. There was plenty to explore, and usually plenty to do. Who needed a damn nine to five job when you could do this?

Even though Alex loved this helicopter, it was just one of those moments where the things you loved seemed to piss you off. He always took a break from it though before he could let it get to him, there was no real point in getting too angry over such a thing. "It needs new parts, but you can't really get them out here." Or you couldn't get them at all was more like it. So he had no idea how he could get his helicopter fixed. Whenever, and if they ever got back to real civilization, he didn't want to just leave it here.
Hearing the woman's answer though, he couldn't help but smile some. "Definitely. People are always telling me to stay away from this thing for a week or two and do other things." Alex wasn't what you'd call "obsessed" when it came to trying to fix the helicopter, but he always held out a bit of hope for it. The thing was their only real connection to the world outside of Rune Valley, and right now, that connection was dead and broken. The damn scientists had been so caught up in themselves, that their main radio feed only went to each other. They didn't really want anyone else finding out about this in fear of people trying to ruin it or stop them.
Of course, they never told the residents about that though until people started getting sick. And when it came to living out here, it wouldn't be all that bad if it weren't for that illness. Unlike some people in Rune Valley, Alex didn't have much family to miss or worry about. All there really was was distant family that he'd never even met. Although as "sad" or "lonely" as that sounded, it didn't matter much to him. He never did have a big family to grow up in, and he didn't really like people feeling sorry for him. He was used to it all.
After changing out his gloves, he decided it was best to introduce himself as well. It'd be pretty rude to just have one person do so. "Alexei, but everyone calls me Alex." He said as he shook her hand. "People like to shorten names like that." And hardly anyone attempted to say his last name, and when they did, they usually butchered it to hell. It seemed like only people from the same area as him, or knew about the names could pronounce it correctly.

"It needs new parts, but you can't really get them out here." Well, Lena could understand something like that... she could understnad the frustration at the very least. Whenever things were most needed it seemed that they chose that time to just decide to stop working properly. "Wish I could help. But I don't exactly make parts for helicopters." It was a small joke, something to lighten the mood as she smiled a bit. During these times everyone was depressed enough as it, something like this didn't help at all.
At a glimsp of his smile she felt slightly more relieved - at least he wasn't as uptight as some of the others here, they were just beginning to get on her nerves in every possible way. Not every moment needed to be devoted to finding a way out of this place. You know, Selena was beginning to find that she enjoyed it here. "Definitely. People are always telling me to stay away from this thing for a week or two and do other things." Lena shook her head at that, "Eh, I wouldn't listen to them. Nothing to do here other than work on it." She gave him a joking wink, "Unless you're like me. I've found plenty to do here."
In all reality she had no clue what he was really like, except for the fact that he had an extreme dedication to his helicopter. Though she couldn't really blame him for that, it was their only connection to anyone outside of their own little world, not that she minded but everyone else did. She was sure that she could just be left out here and be perfectly happy - everyone else could leave and she would still be fine. She didn't need people to keep her company, she had other friends... like herself... and animals. Animals always listened, in general people could care less about what you were doing in comparison to what they were doing.
"Alexei, but everyone calls me Alex." "People like to shorten names like that." She shook his hand, her grip firm before pulling away with a smile. "I'm not even going to attempt to pronouce that, I would kill it... I mean, it would be an insult to everything you probably stand for." She gave a small laugh, the cold hair reflecting her breath with a plume of 'smoke'. "You're Russian right though? You sound Russian." She had blurted it out, apparently her mental filter had just decided to fail, usually she was quite better than that!

Alex hadn't gotten too stressed over the issues with this helicopter, so he could get over it rather quickly. "Not a lot of people do." He said when Lena joked that she didn't make parts for helicopters. "But it's our only real way out of this town. If I could get it going, then I could probably fly out and get some help for us." Of course, Teco would probably be plenty pissed about that. They didn't want anyone to know that they had some virus going around, and they intended to try and handle things on their own.
Alex and the rest of Rune Valley knew though that it probably wasn't possible for them to do that. Teco was mainly an environmental company, so what did they know about medications and health? It was why Alex wanted to get this helicopter fixed, and he didn't care how upset Teco would be with him. "I usually don't..." He said with a slight laugh. ...I do my own things. But like you said, there isn't much out here." Often, he'd just take a small trip out of town and spend some time on his own. Sure, there wasn't much but ice and snow, but the nearby lake and other bodies of water were nice to look at.
And because Alex never had that much of family, he was always alone at times. It didn't bother him, and he liked the quiet. Just looking out at the snow also reminded him of home as well, and when he meant home, he meant Russia. Alex would've loved to go back there, but obviously, that was out the question at the moment. He was stuck here in Antarctica because a bunch of damn scientists didn't want to make themselves look bad. Just as he was thinking about it, it must've been a coincidence that Lena brought up the subject of where he was from.
"Born and raised in Samara." He said to her. "It's not too far from Moscow." It always seemed like people that weren't from around there only knew about Moscow. So he decided to simply throw it into the equation. He always did that though with people when he mentioned where he was from. "And don't worry about messing up the name. I don't take it personally. Happens all the time." It was actually interesting to see how others tried to pronounce it.
